Rutherglen Low Carbon Zone

THE CHALLENGE

Rutherglen Low Carbon Zone Office is the gateway building to the BDP designed Rutherglen Business Park Scheme: Built to achieve 13 of the available 15 BREEAM credits for reduction of emissions, reducing energy costs for tenants.

Careful Consideration had to be given to the cladding based on Environmental credentials whilst still maintaining a natural contemporary look.

THE SOLUTION

Fibre C cladding was an obvious choice for the designer, as it is made only from organic materials and can fully recycled. Manufactured to ISO 14001 standard, Fibre C 13mm Glass reinforced concrete panels are lightweight which weigh only 30 kg per sqm, yet robust enough to cope with the Uk Weather.

Using a sandstone coloured panel finished with a sandblasted face, we replicated the look of natural sandstone, whilst removing the weight issues typically associated with using sandstone blocks. Installed as a ventilated Rainscreen facade, invisibly using the Sikatak system, gave the building a monolithic look and a better overall thermal performance than traditional block work.
